Zhang Jingchuan

Zhang Jingchuan (张京川) is the only survivor of the Mount Nanga Parbat attack in northern Pakistan.

He returned to China on June 26, 2013, after the attack that killed two of his Chinese travel companions, Rao Jianfeng and Yang Chunfeng, as well as nine mountaineers from other countries.

An amateur mountaineer, who had reached the top of three mountains above 8,000 meters high, Zhang set to Mount Naga Parbat for a complete new adventure.

On the dawn of June 23, 2013, several Taliban terrorists awakened the group Zhang joined, bound all the climbers and started killing them one by one.

A former reconnaissance soldier, Zhang is the only survivor, scarred by a bullet, which missed his head, he was able to leap into a valley. He, later, jeopardized his life in order to return to the tents to retrieve a satellite cell phone. He was rescued seven hours after his first call.

Born in Kunming, Yunnan Province, in 1971, Zhang worked in the local Industrial and Commercial Department. He is married and has one son.
