Post-90s: This term refers to the generation that was born between 1990 and 1999 in urban areas on the Chinese mainland. Unlike the post-80s, who were born in an era when the old conflicts with the new, the post-90s live in a comfortable environment in which China’s economy grew by double-digit percentages every year.

The post-90s are regarded as a unique group whose behavior is hard to understand by parents and older siblings. They love to wear fashionable clothes, dye their hair and wear thick makeup. They are loyal Internet users and have even created their own language, Martian, to communicate online.

They are also usually the only child. But compared with the post-80s, who are mostly also only child, they are more indulged upon by their parents. Though most post-90s are still students and economically dependent on their parents, they are still heavily influenced by consumer culture, and many are used to extravagant spending.
