On September 30, 1995, the East China Architectural Design and Research Institute, which had successfully designed the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Shanghai Center, Shanghai Grand Theater and Oriental Concert Hall, won the bid for the Jakarta Tower of Indonesia. This is the first time a company in China won a bid to design a huge international building.
As a symbolic building of Jakarta, the Jakarta Tower is 500 meters in height. Six world-famous architectural design businesses from China, the United States, Japan, Canada and Indonesia participated in the bidding for the project.
