Zhong yong (中庸Doctrine of the Mean) is originally one chapter in the Li. It was extracted as an independent Confucian canon in the Song Dynasty and listed as one of the “Four Books.”
It’s said to be compiled by Zi Si during the Warring States period. The book holds zhong yong (the mean) as the highest ethic norm.
