Chinese writer Zhang Yigong

Zhang Yigong (张一弓), is famous Chinese writer.

A native of Kaifenag, Henan Province, Zhang was born on Jan. 28, 1935. He worked as an editor for nearly 30 years, from 1950s to the late 1970s, first with Henan Mass Daily and then with Henan Daily.

In 1956, Zhang began his literary career with the publication of his first short story "Jinbao and Yinbao," and in the same year, he joined the Party. However, the censured "Mother" for its advocacy of "humanitarianism" soon forced him to stop writing. It was only after being appointed to deputy director with the Cultural Pavilion of Dengfeng County in 1980 that h took up his pen again and wrote more than 20 novelettes and short stories over the following several years. Many of his later works such as Bronze Bell Li, the Criminal, The Romance of Blacksmith Zhang, A Shooting Star Looking for Its Lost Orbit, Sister Chunjie and Her Little Gasi and "Hei Was Takes a Photograph," have won national prizes. Apart from Bronze Bell Li, the Criminal, which reflect rural life in the past, all of his new works deal with the great changes taking place nowadays in the countryside.

His main works include Bronze Bell Li, the Criminal (1980), "Sacrifice" (1980), "Hei Wa takes a Photograph" (1981), The Romance of Blacksmith Zhang (1982), Tearful Marriage (1982), Sister Chunjie and Her Litter Gasi (1984), and A Shooting Satr Looking for Its Lost Orbit (1986).
