Yangpu suspension bridge
Work on the giant Yangpu suspension bridge started on April 29, 1991 and finished just two years and 5 months later on September 15, 1993. The entire structure is 7,658 meters long and its main section spans 1,172 meters. The bridge's inverted Y-shaped towers are 208 meters high and its 6-lane highway is 30.35 meters wide. The bridge soars 48 meters above the Huangpu River allowing 55,000-ton ships to pass under it.
Yangpu Bridge is 72 meters longer than the Skarnsundet Bridge in Norway which, at the time, was the longest suspension bridge in the world.
