Yan Mingfu

Yan Mingfu (阎明复), 81, is one of the Translators Association of China (TAC) original founders. He is also the former head of the Translation Group of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and deputy editor-in-chief of the Encyclopedia of China Publishing House (ECPH).

Yan had long served as a Russian translator for the late Chairman Mao Zedong and other contemporary state leaders. Yan was also the deputy Secretary-General of the 1st TAC Council, the vice president of the 2nd Council and the executive vice president of the 3rd and 4th Councils. He also worked as an advisor to the 5th and 6th Councils.

While serving as the association's head figure, Yan dedicated himself to building the organization and fostering more academic exchanges. Yan also gave special support in the launch of the Asian Translators' Forum.

He received the Outstanding Contribution to Translation Industry Award at the Second National Translation Conference in Beijing on Dec. 6, 2012.
