Xiong Chaozhong (熊朝忠) is China’s first-ever professional boxer to win a world title after he defeated Mexican fighter Javier Martínez Resendiz ('the Demon') for the vacant World Boxing Council Minimumweight Championship in Kunming, Yunnan Province on Nov. 24, 2012.
The Hmong Chinese boxer was born to a poor family living near mine pits in Yunnan on Oct. 3, 1982. In order to make a living and pursue his dreams, he started the boxing career in 2006, without previous training in any professional team.
On June 29, 2013, Xiong successfully defended his world championship belt in Dubai.
On Nov. 30, 2013, the China’s only world boxing champion defeated his Thai opponent Lookrak Kiatmungmee after two knockouts in the fifth round during a competition held in Maguan county in Yunnan Province.
Xiong is currently winner of the IBF Pan Pacific light flyweight title and the WBC Asian Boxing Council light flyweight title.
