Widow year

From Wiki China org cn

"Widow year" means a year that doesn't contain the traditional start of spring, known as Lichun.

The Chinese lunar calendar separates a year into 24 periods that include the Lichun period, which the Chinese believe to be a time of yang (masculine) energy.

The old superstition implies that no yang means no husband, or makes a woman a widow. Superstitious parents who fear dire consequences, including harm to husbands, disruption in marriages and unlucky children, are imploring young people to marry before the lunar New Year.

PS, the 2010 lunar year starts after the Lichun period and ends before the next period begins in 2011, meaning 2010 doesn't have that yang energy.
