China's third national economic census (第三次全国经济普查) will begin Dec. 31, 2013, said Vice Premier Zhang Gaoli during a State Council meeting June 4.
Zhang was selected by the State Council to lead the group responsible for organizing and implementing the census.
According to Zhang, the third economic census will collect basic information on the industrial and service sectors and more detailed information on economic changes. The survey will be used to improve decision-making and economic growth efficiency, Zhang said.
The economic census (经济普查) is conducted once every five years in China. It is used to collect information on Chinese enterprises, clarify the layout and scale of industrial sectors and probe new industries.
