Shuanglin Temple

The Shuanglin Temple is located in Qiaotou Village, seven kilometers west of Pingyao County. As one of the major sites of the Ancient City of Pingyao, it was listed as a key cultural site under the protection of the Shanxi provincial government on May 24, 1965.

Covering an area of 14,844 sq. m, it is built on a three-meter-high earth base; it is surrounded by high rammed-earth walls on four sides. In addition to its various major halls, what makes the temple famous are pagoda trees planted during the Tang Dynasty (618-907), stone tablets erected in the Song Dynasty, bells cast in the Ming Dynasty, as well as 2,056 invaluable colored sculptures.
