Sheng

Sheng is a musical instrument made of reed pipes of various shapes, such as circular and square, in a frame. To play the sheng, one covers the finger holes and vibrated the reeds by blowing. Initially, there were 13 pipes. Later the number was increased to 17 and further to 24, to expand the range and enrich the harmony. Besides reed, copper and bamboo are also used in making sheng.
