The Shanghai Maglev Line （上海磁悬浮线) was the world's first commercial maglev line, based on Siemens technology, linking Shanghai Subway Line 2 with Pudong International Airport. The system and trains were built to the Transrapid standard of Germany. Construction commenced in March 2001, and public services began on 11 Ocober 2003.
The 30-km journey takes about 8 minutes. The maximum operation speed is set at 300 kmh from 7:00 to 8:30 and from 17:30 to 21:00 in response to the government's call for resource saving. The maximum speed between 8:30 to 17:30 is 430 kmh for passengers' experience.
