The word "seckill" (秒杀) originated from the online game Legends and relates to the strength of a warrior who can kill his enemies within seconds. The term has also become popular in the online shopping community to define the rapid sell out of newly advertised goods. "Seckill" has become synonymous with bargain hunting and sometimes irresponsible purchases.

People also click to obtain coupons online, yet on occasion this has caused problems for businesses. Fast food chain KFC once faced an embarrassment as hordes of customers crowded a KFC in Nanjing and demanded the redemption of half-price coupons they had downloaded. But the outlet denied the validity of the coupons, and frustrated customers argued with the store for hours.
