Safety Helmet

Safety Helmet (安全帽) is a coalition of student unions from 13 universities based in Beijing, which include Peking University, Tsinghua University and Beijing Normal University. The coalition campaigns against the discrimination of migrant workers and seeks to improve their quality of life. Safety Helmet leaders say migrant workers are burdened with grueling manual labor that pays meager wages and lack adequate social support to protect their vulnerable legal rights. Safety Helmet provides daily necessities, books and films in addition to hosting symposiums and festive galas to promote a better understanding of migrant workers’ lives. The students spend their vacations visiting the hometowns of workers, most of whom are from Hebei and Henan provinces.
