An outstanding example of Guangxi's cultural heritage, the Royal Palace resembles a miniature "Forbidden City" in Beijing. There is a hill within the huge complex – a most unconventional arrangement in a royal residence. Pavilions and towers are dotted around the pool below the peak.
In the Qing Dynasty, the residence was designated as a venue for holding the provincial examinations. Three stone tablets inset into the wall above the entrance read "Principal Graduate with Honors" "Second Graduate with Honors" and "Triple First with Honors," showing the emphasis on and respect for education in Guangxi.
