Located in Chun'an County, the Qiandao Lake (http://www.1000d.cn/English/) is among the first 44 state-level scenic spots proclaimed by the State Council, and also the largest national forest park so far. It is a man-made reservoir formed during the construction of Xin'anjiang Hydropower Station in 1959.

The lake is so named because when the continuous ridges were submerged in water, those that still showed became islands, numbering 1,078 in total. The largest is Jieshou Island, 1,320 hectares in area, and the smallest, Longzhu Island, is only 0.24 hectare in area. The scenic zone of the Thousand-Island Lake covers 982 square kilometers, of which the water area is 573 sq. km. The total storage volume of the reservoir is 17.84 billion cubic meters, with an average depth of water is 34 m. The forest coverage on these islands is 82.5%. The annual average temperature is 17 degrees centigrade and the water temperature is 14 degrees centigrade.
