Peace Hotel

The Peace Hotel has been a symbol of Shanghai for more than half a century. Today, it remains one of the most popular hotels among international visitors because of its typical European interior setting and atmosphere.

The Peace Hotel consists of two imposing buildings: North Building and South Building. As the first ten-story-plus building in Shanghai (once crowned "No.1 building in the East"), the North Building, used to be named the Sassoon House and Cathay Hotel. Its construction began in 1926 and was completed in 1929. Some of the guest rooms on the fifth, sixth, and seventh floors have been designed in German, Spanish, Italian, Japanese, French, American, Chinese, or British styles. The most magnificent part of the whole building is the 10-meter-high roof that is coated with red copper and decorated with a green pyramid.

The South Building was first set up in 1860s and then reconstructed in 1906. The six-story building of Baroque and Renaissance style was one of the earliest multi-storied structures equipped with elevators and was for quite a long time the most luxurious hotel in Shanghai.

The hotel is also famous for its Old Jazz Band and Old Jazz Bar.
