Jingbo Lake, situated 110 km southwest of the city of Mudanjiang, is one of the largest mountainous barrier lake in the world and an internationally known summer resort. In winter, the spectacular ice waterfalls are formed.

The lakebed used to be the riverbed of the upper reaches of the Mudan River. About 10,000 years ago, a volcano erupted here, and the lava flow blocked the river to form a barrier lake. Consisting of a mountain top lake, a middle lake, a south lake and a north lake, the strip of water is in “S”-shaped, 45 km long, and six km wide at the widest point and 0.4 km wide at the narrowest. The water covers an area of 98 sq km, with an average depth of 45 m and 74 m at its deepest. It is the largest mountain barrier lake in China. The famous Diaoshuilou Falls is at the top of Dragon Spring Mountain by the northern part of the lake.

The lush green natural scenery by the lake holds a great appeal to tourists.
