The January 28 Incident was the start of a three-month war between the Republic of China and Japan. The conflict ended on May 5, 1932, when Japan and China signed the Shanghai Ceasefire Agreement. The agreement made Shanghai a demilitarized zone, but in 1937 the fighting started again, this time known as the Anti-Japanese War.
