Hong lou meng (《红楼梦》A Dream of Red Mansions) composed by Cao Xueqin in the Qing Dynasty tells of the fortunes and misfortunes of an aristocratic family in the 18th century, following the main theme of the tragic romance of the main characters Jia Baoyu, Lin Daiyu and Xue Baochai. Acknowledged as a remarkable apex in Chinese literary classics, the novel even gave birth to a new academic discipline — “Hongxue” or research on Red Mansions.
