Hanju (Hubei opera) is an old operatic form originating in Hubei. It dates back more than three hundred years and has had much influence on the formation of Peking opera, Sichuan opera and Hunan opera. Its vocal music has many musical patterns and over four hundred tunes. The repertoire is also very large. Hanju is popular in Hubei, Henan, Shaanxi and Hunan.
