Plagiarism:

In 2003, online writer Zhuang Yu sued Guo Jingming for plagiarizing large portions of her work in his novel “How Many Flowers Fall in a Dream”. In December 2004, the Beijing Intermediate People’s Court found Guo guilty of plagiarism and ordered Guo to compensate Zhuang 200,000 yuan (US$32,350) for her losses and publish an apology in “Beijing Youth Daily”. Dissatisfied with the verdict, Guo appealed to Beijing Higher People’s Court.

On May 22, 2006, the Beijing Higher People’s Court upheld the original verdict and ordered Guo to pay an additional 10,000 yuan to compensate for Zhuang’s distress. Though Guo continued to protest the verdict, he was forced to deliver the public apology to Zhuang. He later said the apology he gave was insincere.
