Guangxi Museum of Ethnology is the third museum at autonomous region level in Guangxi, and is the largest in terms of exhibition area and one of the most complete in terms of facilities among all ethnic and cultural specialty museums in Guangxi. The museum, initiated since 2003, is located at the beautiful riverside of Yongjiang and in the Qingxiushan Mountain Scenic Area in Nanning. It covers 120 mu in land area and a total of 30500 square meters in construction area, and what is affiliated to it is an open air exhibition park of over 60 mu for traditional residential houses in Guangxi. In 2003, the government of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region listed the museum as a key gift project for free since May 2009. Guangxi Museum of Ethnology by function is an ethnic cultrual specialty museum focusing on 12 ethnic groups who have been living in Guangxi for generations. Material evidences regarding multiplication and daily lives, social integration and development, culture and artistic heritage and tangible and intangible cultural legacy are surveyed, collected, protected, studied and displayed here in education and publicity purposes.
