Gu Long

Xiong Yaohua (1936-1985), a famous author of martial arts novels, better known by his penname, Gu Long, died at age of 49 in Taipei of cirrhosis brought on by alcoholism.

Born in 1936, Xiong spent a lonely and gloomy childhood. He moved to Taiwan from Hong Kong at the age of 14 to attend school. His parents divorced when he was 18, and he had to take part-time jobs to finish his studies in the Foreign Language Department of Tamkang University in Taiwan. After Xiong graduated, he found a job with the United States Army in Taipei and began his literary career.

His best-known works include the Legendary Twins, the Lu Xiaofeng Series and the Chu Liuxiang Series.
