The Former Residence of Xiao Hong, 28 kilometers from Harbin, is situated at Wenhuazhan Road, Hulan District, and covers an area of 7125 square meters. It was listed as one of the major sites to be protected at the provincial level.

The residence was built in 34th year of the reign of Emperor Guangxu (1908). Born in May 1911, Xiao Hong, a famous female writer in China in the 1930s, spent her childhood here. In 1929, she left home, and became a famous Left Wing writer in China. On Jan 22, 1942, she died in Hong Kong, and left behind many literary works as a precious legacy to us, such as novels, short stories and essays that number more than 1 million words.

The Former Residence of Xiao Hong, a typical traditional Manchu residence with 30 rooms, is made of adobe and wood with black-tiled roof. Many artifacts are exhibited in the courtyard, such as some items used by Xiao Hong and her grandmother in their daily life, photographs of Xiao Hong, souvenirs, epigraphs, poems and letters from Chinese and foreign celebrities. In addition, a two-meter high statue of Xiao Hong can also be seen here.
