Daqing oilfield

From Wiki China org cn

On September 25, 1959, an oil exploration team found a large oil reserve in Songliao Basin in northeast China. It was the largest oil reserve discovered in China for three decades.

As the 10th anniversary of the People's Republic of China was just days away, the newly-discovered oilfield was named "Daqing", which means grand celebration.

Once the oilfield began production, China saw its oil output increase considerably, and its dependence on imported oil reduced greatly.

Daqing oilfield located in northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, is China's No.1 terrestrial oil producer.
