Daqin Railway

The opening ceremony of the Daqin Railway was held in the Qinhuangdao North Station on December 21, 1992.

With an investment of 6.65 billion yuan, the Daqin Railway was the first electrified double track line dedicated to coal-transport.

Its name is derived from its two terminal cities, Datong, a coal mining center in Shanxi province, and Qinhuangdao, of Hebei province, on the Bohai Sea.

The 410.8-kilometer first phase project opened on December 28, 1988. It ran from Datong to Dashizhuang, Sanhe County in Hebei Province. It contributed an Industrial Output Value of over 200 billion yuan in its four years.

The second phase of the project was 242.2 kilometers long. It started from Dashizhuang, and passed through Hebei Province, Ji County, Yutian, Zunhua, Qianxi, Qian'an, Lulong, Funing in Tianjin and finished in Qinhuangdao.

After the opening of the second phase project trains go directly from Datong to Qinhuangdao without bypassing Jingqin Railway.
