"Conservation-oriented society" (节约型社会) is a slogan used by the Chinese central government to advocate for sustainable development.
Conservation-oriented society requires energy conservation, industrial restructure, technological innovation, management optimization and frugal lifestyles. It put energy conservation at the top of the list in terms of changing development patterns, from which the focus is shifted from continuous GDP expansion to social construction and welfare.
Conservation-oriented society was also proposed to avoid environmental devastation, which poses a great threat to the basic interests of people and the sustainable development of the country.
