The 24th Olympic Games opened at the Jamsil Olympic Stadium in Seoul at 10:30 am on September 17, 1988. China won five golds, 11 silvers and 12 bronze medals at the games finishing 11th in the gold medal rankings. The Chinese women's swimming team won 3 silvers and a bronze, heralding a new era in Chinese swimming history.
