Actor Zhang Mo (张默) was born on July 28, 1982 in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. He was detained by police on Jan. 30, 2012 in a villa in Beijing's Shunyi District for taking marijuana. His father Zhang Guoli, a noted actor and director, expressed support for the police's action in a statement on Feb. 1. He implored the media to be tolerant, understand the feelings of a father, and give his son a chance to repent and make a fresh start. Zhang Mo had previously been in an early 2003 scandal for hitting his then girlfriend.

Zhang Mo studied in the Central Academy of Drama but did not graduate. He starred in many films and TV dramas since 1997, including "Remembering 1942" (2012), "Will be Lovelorn for 33 Days" (2011), "Always Together" (2011), "Let the Bullets Fly" (2010), "The World Second" (2007), and "Because of Love" (2000).
