On Nov. 27, 1958, China's first seafaring vessel, built by Dalian Shipyard, was launched. It was called "Yue Jin" by the Ministry of Transport.

From start to finish, the construction of its huge body, designed by the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics, only took 58 days before Yue Jin was ready for operation.

Yue Jin was equipped with the latest technology. It was 169.9 m long, and with a cargo capacity of 13,400 tons and discharge capacity of 22,100 tons, it could sail against the ice in frozen areas. Because of mechanized and automatic equipment, its sailing speed was also as quick as the design intended. After setting off from the port of Shanghai, the vessel directly arrived at some major ports around the world without needing to fuel up during the journey.
