Wearable Computer

the wearable computer

The wearable computer (穿戴式计算机), consisting of miniature electronic devices the size of watch parts, is easy to bring with you any place, any time.

Usually, its OLED (organic light-emitting diode) screen is incorporated in a pair of huge glasses, with its functions including all of those of a regular PC, laptop or iPad -- such as three dimensional videos, electronic reading and cloud computing.

China’s first wearable computer, dubbed the “eye-top,” was produced by Yunan North OliGHTEK Opto-Electronic Technology Co., Ltd. in 2012. The computer made its debut at the 15th International Science and Technology Industry Expo held on May 23 of that same year.

The consumer-oriented “eye-top,” a combination of optics, body geometry and computing, has been developed in the U.S., Australia, Canada and Japan. The production of China’s very own “eye-top” taps into a vacuum on the country’s domestic market.
