Sun Li
Sun Li (孙俪) is a Chinese film and TV drama actress. She was nominated on Oct. 8, 2013 for the 41st International Emmy in the Best Actress category for her role in the television serial "Legend of Zhen Huan".
Born on Sept. 26 1982 in Shanghai, Sun started to dance during her childhood. At the age of 11, she was chosen as a representative of the Shanghai Children's Artist Troupe to visit Britain, the United States and Japan. At the age of 15, she enrolled into the Shanghai Garrison Song and Dance Ensemble to serve in the army for three years.
In 1998, Sun won the First Prize for Dancing Performance in the People's Liberation Army Joint Art Show and was awarded a Class III Merit Citation by her troops. After retiring from military service, she studied at the Shanghai Yindu Art College, majoring in performance.
In 2001, she won a prize in the Talent Show for Promising Young Artists held in Singapore. Soon after, she signed a contract with Beijing Hairun Performing Art Brokerage Co. Ltd.
In 2003, Sun was under the spotlight for her leading role in the 27-episode TV drama "Jade Goddess of Mercy" which won her the 22nd China Golden Eagle Award for Audiences' Favorite Actress. Since then she was seen as a young and promising actress in China. The following year, she starred in many television dramas and films, including "Blood-Red Romance", "The Story of a Noble Family", "Happiness as Flowers", "Shanghai Bund", "Sweet Love", "Painted Skin" and "Aunt Duohe".
In 2006, Sun won the 28th Hundred Flowers Award for the Best Promising Actress, one of the most prestigious film awards in China, for her role in the film "Huo Yuanjia". In 2008, she was crowned the Best Actress in the Second Rome Fiction Fest for her performance in the film "Iron Road". In 2010, she claimed the Best Actress Award at the 25th Gemini Awards, Canada's annual television broadcast industry awards, for her performance in the film "Iron Road".
In 2012, Sun starred in the 76-episode TV drama "Legend of Zhen Huan" which centers on the stories of Emperor Yongzheng's concubines in the Imperial Palace during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). Sun's popularity skyrocketed when the TV drama made its debut. The drama was later broadcast in Taiwan and is likely to be introduced in the United States.
Also in 2012, Sun and her husband Deng starred in the film "Mural" which had a box-office success of more than 180 million yuan (US$29.56 million), and the theme song, sung by the couple, also became popular.
In March 2013, Sun starred in the 40-episode TV drama "Hot Mom!" which was warmly received by audiences for its fresh, fashionable and positive image of a young mother.
Sun is an animal lover. The book "Take Me Home" written and published in 2008 tells moving stories between her and stray dogs. "Having excellent performing skills and moral integrity is my career goal," she said.
Family
In 2010, Sun married actor Deng Chao, and in 2011 their son was born.
In 2014, Sun gave birth to a baby girl at a Hong Kong hospital.
