China and Canada established diplomatic relations on October 13, 1970. In 1973, China and Canada reached agreements on exchanging consulates, preferential trademark registration, family reunion, civil aviation, exchanging students and simplifying visa procedures. Then, in November 1974, the Chinese Consulate General was established in Vancouver. Ever since China and Canada signed the first trade agreement in 1973, bilateral trade volume has increased rapidly.
