Shanghai Conservatory of Music

On Nov. 27, 1927, the National Conservatory of Music (the current Shanghai Conservatory of Music), the first new-type music school in China, was established. In October 1927, according to the principle of "Use aesthetic education to replace religious education," Tsai Yuanpei sent Dr. Xiao Youmei to make preparations for the construction of the National Conservatory of Music in Shanghai. Xiao referred to the Paris National Institute of Music as a reference. After setting up the first music school in China, he took the position of dean.

In July 1929, according to an order by the government of Nanjing, the school was renamed as the National Music Institute and gradually developed into a famous music school in China.
