In the hearts of calligraphy lovers, the Orchid Pavilion is considered the mecca. Located 12.5 km southwest of Shaoxing, this historic as well as scenic site occupies an area of over three hectares. Its name was chosen the king of the Yue State who once grew orchids there. A pavilion was also built on the spot in the Han Dynasty to serve as a post station.

The pavilion nestles against green hills covered with rich trees and dense bamboo groves. Around it are murmuring crystal-clear streams. The winding waters, ancient buildings, stone tablets, and above all, the display of masterpieces by top calligraphers, both ancient and contemporary, all combine to make the spot a popular attraction.
