National Memorial Day

The National Memorial Day (国家公祭日), which falls on December 13, was ratified by China's top legislature on Feb. 27, 2014 to mourn the Nanjing Massacre victims.
The massacre happened across a six-week period in late 1937. Japanese soldiers killed more than 300,000 people in the eastern Chinese city of Nanjing, then the capital of the country.
Japan invaded northeast China in September 1931. Historians agree that Japan's full-scale invasion started on July 7, 1937, when a crucial access point to Beijing, Lugou Bridge, was attacked by Japanese troops.
Around 35 million Chinese soldiers and civilians were killed or injured by Japanese invaders during the war against Japanese aggression (1937-1945).
