Nan Yong (南勇)

Nan Yong (南勇) was former vice chairman of the Chinese Football Association and director of the Football Sports Administrative Center of the General Administration of Sport of China (GASC). On June 13, 2012, the Tieling Municipal Intermediate People's Court in Liaoning Province announced that Nan Yong was sentenced to 10 years and a half in prison for taking bribes.

Born on June 16, 1962 in Yanbian Korean Autonomous Prefecture, Jilin Province, Nan enrolled in the Yanbian Prefecture Sports School in 1975 and the Yanbian Prefecture Speed Skating Training Class in 1978. He took part in national and provincial speed skating competitions and broke local records many times.

Nan enrolled in the Shenyang Sports University in 1980. He was elected president of the university's Student Union. After graduation in 1984, he was assigned to the Human Resources Department of the State Commission for Physical Culture and Sports (SCPCS).

In 1989, he was assigned to work in Yemen by SCPCS.

In September 1989, he was transferred to the Chinese Football Association.

In 2001, he acted as head of the Chinese delegation and led the Chinese Football Team to take part in the World Cup's Asian Qualification Competition and successfully enter the finals.

In 2002, again he acted as head of the Chinese delegation and led the Chinese Football Team to take part in the World Cup finals co-held in Japan and South Korea.

In March 2005, he acted as secretary of the Party Committee of the Football Sports Administrative Center of GASC.

From 2005 to early 2009, he acted as secretary of the Party Committee and vice director of the Chinese Football Association, and director of China Football Super League Committee.

On January 2009, he acted as director and secretary of leading Party group of the Football Sports Administrative Center of GASC, and vice chairman and secretary of the Party Committee of the China Football Association.

On Jan. 21, 2010, the Ministry of Public Security confirmed that Nan Yong was summoned for interrogation by the Liaoning provincial public security department in accordance with the law.

On Jan. 22, 2010, he was dismissed from the duties of director and secretary of the Party Committee of the Football Sports Administrative Center of GASC.

On Jan. 24, 2010, the Ministry of Public Security announced that Nan Yong had been under criminal detention.

On Mar. 1, 2010, the Ministry of Public Security confirmed that Nan Yong was arrested on suspicion of manipulating football matches and accepting briberies estimated at about 3 million yuan (US$476,140).

On Apr. 25, 2012, Nan Yong stood trial for taking bribes at the Tieling Municipal Intermediate People's Court in Liaoning Province. He has been charged with 17 counts of taking bribes worth 1.48 million yuan (about US$235,000).

On June 13, 2012, the Tieling Municipal Intermediate People's Court in Liaoning Province announced that Nan Yong was sentenced to 10 years and a half in prison for taking bribes.
