Mulan Pond

From Wiki China org cn

Located at the foot of Mulan Mountain five kilometers south of Putian city, Mulan Pond was one of the largest irrigation works in ancient China. Built in 1075 during the Northern Song Dynasty (960-1127), it helped turn 10,000 hectares of land into fertile soil, thus greatly boosting the local economic development. After the founding of People's Republic of China, the area irrigated was greatly expanded.

Mulan Pond Memorial Hall has been erected to honor the four ancestors who built the pond. The hall houses statues of the pioneers alongside a number of stone tablets with inscriptions by famous scholars of the Ming Dynasty (1368-1644).
