Meng Ge (梦鸽) is a lead folk vocalist with the Song and Dance Ensemble of the PLA General Political Department. She is the wife of Li Shuangjiang, famous Chinese tenor. Their teenage son has been charged on August 28 with involvement in the gang rape of a 23-year-old woman in February 2013.

Career

Meng was born Liu Qingdi in 1966, in Shashi City of central China's Hubei Province. Introduced to the arts by her mother, Meng began to perform on stage at 8 years old. In 1979, she joined the local Shashi City Song and Dance Troupe.

In 1984, Meng went to Beijing. She studied at the Opera Department of China Social Conservatory of Music, as well as the Vocal Music Department of China Conservatory of Music.

In 1992, she joined the Song and Dance Ensemble of the People's Liberation Army (PLA) General Political Department and became a professional lead singer.

In 1996, Meng became a postgraduate studying for a master's degree in national vocal music at the China Conservatory of Music, thus establishing an important leap in her artistic career. During this time, she won the Golden Prize for the Audience's Most Favorite Singers twice.

She has been invited to participate in the annual CCTV Spring Festival Gala many times. Her presence in many large-scale national theatrical and artistic performances remains in strong demand.

Meng's most representative work includes the songs "Motherland, I Love You," "Ode to the Yimeng Mountains," "Pure Water of the Frontier," "Mother Forever," "Dragon Boat Song," " Motherland, Bless You Forever," "Remember That Day" and "I Love You, Beijing."

Meng Ge was one of the torch relay bearers during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. "I Love You, Beijing" was composed specifically for the Games and has remained popular ever since.

Mang Ge is a member of the Standing Committee of the All China Youth Federation Directly Under the Communist Party of China (CPC), a member of the Youth Federation Directly Under the CPC Central Committee, a member of the Youth Federation -- at the special invitation of the State-owned Assets Supervision and Administration Commission -- and a member of the Chinese Musicians Association.

Family

In October 1990, Meng Ge married her tutor, famous tenor Li Shuangjiang, who is 27 years her senior. On April 25, 1996, their son Li Tianyi was born. On February 17, 2013 Li Tianyi was charged with involvement in the drunken gang rape of a 23-year-old woman, along with four more suspects. The alleged rape took place in a Beijing hotel on February 17, 2013. The case was formally heard at the Beijing Haidian District People's Court on August 28, 2013.

On Sept. 26, 2013, Meng Ge's son Li Tianyi was sentenced by the Beijing Haidian District People's Court to 10 years in jail for his involvement in the gang rape case.
