Liang Xiaosheng

Born in a construction worker's family in Harbin in 1949, Liang Xiaosheng was sent to the Great Northern Wilderness in the northeastern part of the country as an educated youth in 1968, where he worked as a farm worker, and afterwards as a primary school teacher, and a reporter. In 1974 he entered Fudan University specializing in literary creation in the Department of Chinese on the recommendation of his working unit. Mr. Liang is now deputy-head of Arts Commission of China Children's Film Studio.

His masterpieces, with the theme of educated youth living in the countryside include This is a Miraculous Land, The Snowstorm Tonight, Snow City and so on, from which the novel Snow City stands out. His later works switched to probing into the reality and human nature and the novel Floating City portrays his forecast and prediction of the end of human world in the form of society fantasy, which is extremely profound and thought-provoking.
