Li Bin was appointed as the acting and vice governor of east China's Anhui province on December 12, 2011, the provincial legislative body said.

Li, who was previously director of the National Population and Family Planning Commission, assumed the post during the 29th session of the standing committee of the 11th Anhui Provincial People's Congress.

The provincial legislature also approved the resignation of Wang Sanyun, the former governor of Anhui Province.

Born in October 1954 in northeast China's Liaoning province, Li received a doctor's degree in economics from Jilin University.

She joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in June 1981.

She had served in the publicity department of the Changchun municipal Party committee, chief of Jilin's provincial economic system reform commission and vice governor of Jilin.
