June 1 International Children's Day (Chinese: 六一国际儿童节) is a festival for the children of the whole world. The Women International Democratic Federation council meeting was held in Moscow in November 1949. In order to protect the children's right of survival, health and education, and to improve the living environment of children, the meeting decided to set annual June 1 as the International Children's Day.

Currently the International Children's Day is celebrated in many countries. In China, Children's Day is also celebrated on June 1. When the People's Republic of China was founded in 1949, the State Council designated a half-day holiday for all primary schools on June 1. This was later made into a full day's break in 1956 with the announcement by the State Council to make June 1 Children's Day a one-day holiday. Schools usually hold activities such as camping trips or free movies on Children's Day to allow students to have fun. Ceremonies for joining in the Young Pioneers of China are usually held on June 1 as well.
