The International Astronautical Federation (IAF) welcomed China as a member on September 26, 1980.
Founded in 1951 in Paris, the IAF is a non-governmental and non-profit organization whose responsibilities include serving as an advisory institute for the United Nations. The IAF aims to raise the public's awareness and appreciation of space activities, pushing forward the research of space sciences and technologies and enhancing international cooperation in exploring outer space.
