A key cultural relic site under national-level protection, the villa occupies 0.24 hectares on Jingde Road east of the Huanglifang Bridge in Suzhou. It is famed for its rockery art. Its predecessor was the Golden Millet Garden belonging to Qian Yuanliao, King Guangling of Wuyue State during the Five Dynasties Period (907-960). At the turn of the 17th century during the Ming Dynasty, it became the residence of Shen Shixing, a high-ranking official. In 1841 during the Qing Dynasty, Wang Zao and Wang Kun renovated its east garden and renamed it Yiyuan, or Huanxiu Mountain Villa.
