Haihe Dam

On Nov. 18, 1958, the construction of the Haihe Dam was successfully completed.

The closure of the dam signified that the largest water system in north China had been tamed.

The dam blocked the natural connection between Haihe and the Bohai Sea, stopping the exchange of freshwater and sea water. As a result, Haihe became better at serving the production of agriculture and industry at the people's will.

The dam is 300 m in length, 13 m in height, over 260 m wide at the bottom and 10 m wide on top. Such a huge project is rarely seen in Tianjin's history. Normally, it would take half a year to complete it, but it only took the tens of thousands of workers 44 days and nights.
