Gutian Meeting

Gutian Meeting, or the Ninth Party Representative Congress of the Fourth Front Army of the Chinese Red Army, was held in Gutian Village, Shanghang County, Fujian Province on December 28, 1929. More than 120 representatives attended the two-day meeting.

The meeting passed the resolution on correcting mistaken ideas in the Party and was chaired by Mao Zedong.    The meeting summarized the army development experience after the Nanchang Uprising in 1927. It also differentiated the Red Army from old-style armies and clarified how to build an army to deal with proletarian revolution. The congress outlined a Marxism-Leninism route as the new direction for the Red Army.
