The Fragrant Hills Park in downtown Beijing.

The Fragrant Hills Park (香山公园) is an imperial garden at the foot of the Western Hills, approximately 10 km to the northwest of downtown Beijing.

Due to its relatively higher elevation and dense cover of trees, spring arrives late in the area and summer days are always pleasantly cool.

The best time to visit the park is late autumn, when maple leaves turn red. In addition to maple trees, there are also groves of apricots, pears, peaches and lilacs adding their fragrance and the more solemn evergreens whose contribution to the local beauty is unrestricted by seasonal changes.
