Taken literally, it seems to be a tiger in autumn. In Chinese it signifies a spell of hot weather after Liqiu, the "Beginning of Autumn" (the 13th seasonal point, occurring around August 8).

Usually, when autumn starts, the weather is supposed to get cooler. It does initially. But the residual power of the summer will not just give up easily and it lingers into Autumn for about 30 days. Sometimes, it feels that the weather is even hotter than in summer.
